A lecture by Andreas Jacob on materiality, textiles und spacial effect
No space without a floor, no impact without context – the language of space arises from the interplay of these three levels. How do material and geometry shape spatial perception? What role does sustainability play in this, and how can these factors be translated into a coherent spatial language?
These questions will be addressed in the lecture Three Levels = One Space at Heimtextil 2026. In an open discussion, Andreas Jacob, Associate at brandherm + krumrey interior architecture (b-k-i), will examine the interaction between space, material and design from an interior architecture perspective and show how different levels – from functional structure to sensory quality to cultural significance – can be combined to create a coherent spatial experience.
Focus is placed on the role of textile materials as a design-defining element: they structure spaces, influence acoustics and atmosphere, and significantly shape the perception of interiors. Using selected project examples, the presentation provides insights into how b-k-i works and shows how conscious material selection, spatial choreography and conceptual clarity can create complex spaces that are both functional and emotionally compelling.
The lecture is part of the program of events at Heimtextil in Frankfurt, the leading international trade fair for home and contract textiles, which brings together designers, manufacturers and planners to discuss textile innovations and new approaches to architecture and interior design.
The event is recognised as subject-specific continuing professional development. Members of the Chamber of Architects and Urban Planners of Hesse can earn one continuing professional development point; recognition by other chambers of architects is possible.
