Lecture by Susanne Brandherm in Wiesbaden
On 27 November, Susanne Brandherm gave a presentation at the Galli Theatre in Wiesbaden, at the invitation of the architectural firm BGF, on how interior design can have an impact. Entitled IMPACT INNEN ARCHITEKTUR (IMPACT INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE), her 90-minute lecture provided a concise overview of b-k-i’s approach, working methods, and design responsibility. The Hesse Chamber of Architects awarded the lecture 2 continuing professional development credits.
In the foreground was the question of how spaces provide orientation, shape atmosphere and make everyday life noticeably lighter. Using various project examples from residential, office, hospitality and healthcare, Brandherm highlighted typical challenges and how b-k-i solves them through precise floor plans, material awareness and clear design.
Another focus was sustainable interior design, including the use of regional and durable materials, resource-efficient planning, and understanding the real limitations imposed by budget, existing structures, and customer requirements. Brandherm also explained how multisensory design elements such as lighting, acoustics and materials have a direct effect on mood and behaviour.
Lastly, she shared her insights into the planning process, from the initial concept to implementation, and emphasised the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. The subsequent Q&A session revealed a keen interest in how interior design can be made more responsible and effective today.
The evening clearly demonstrated how interior design can provide inspiration by reorganising living spaces to create orientation and produce environments that support people rather than overwhelming them.
