What environment promotes relaxation and well-being? An everyday question for interior designers, but it becomes even more important when designing a vacation home. This was also the case with the project that brandherm + krumrey realized for a family of four in Eckernförde. For the vacation home on the Schleswig-Holstein coast, it was particularly important to the residents to create a place where all generations feel comfortable. A warm ambience with a down-to-earth as well as valuable appearance was desired. The interior of the modern brick house has an open design and receives plenty of natural light with floor-to-ceiling windows. The central area and family hub is the living level on the second floor, where all functions flow smoothly into one another. This is where the interior design comes in with a restrained design that gives the living, cooking and dining areas a pleasant spaciousness. Light and warm materials dominate the interior and emphasize the light atmosphere. Natural wood floors and selected filigree design such as the dining table lamps and upholstered chairs convey a valuable coziness. As a subtle colorful eye-catcher acts a blue built-in cabinet that also serves as a room divider. Also on the upper floor are the personal sleeping areas and the family bathroom with steam shower. Here, too, natural materials and a restrained color scheme underscore the friendly atmosphere. Earth and natural tones, soft textiles, light fixtures and wooden surfaces contribute significantly to the feel-good atmosphere. In the kids’ room, a custom mix of bed and storage furniture helps house clothes and toys and provides an extra couch for overnight guests. The light and restrained ambience continues on the first floor, where a bright hallway leads to the lower living areas. Flowing spatial transitions are also part of the design concept here. A ground level guest room offers a separate retreat with galley kitchen and private bathroom. As in the rest of the rooms, the high-quality design is combined with a warm tonality that invites you to switch off and relax.
