Susanne Brandherm talks about sustainable interior architecture
How can we design interiors that are ecologically responsible and simultaneously promote emotional well-being? What role does interior architecture play in initiating real changes in companies and institutions? Starting this year, the Heinze Climate Festival in Berlin is devoting a dedicated stage to this topic. Under the title Greenterior, ecological innovation meets creative design.
In this context, Susanne Brandherm, together with other experts from the fields of planning, design and materials research, will discuss approaches that go far beyond classic sustainability criteria at the panel talk ‘Green Office Design – Between Aspiration and Reality’ on 19 November 2025. The focus will be on how spaces can become active catalysts for sustainable thinking and action – in the everyday life of companies, institutions and public places.
For b-k-i, sustainable interior design means not only choosing resource-efficient materials, but also consciously creating atmospheres that empower people: through light, acoustics, structure, orientation and the opportunity to participate. Interior architecture thus becomes a medium that makes identity tangible and supports long-term change.
Susanne Brandherm emphasises:
‘Sustainability is not a feature that is added on. It is the starting point for every design. We develop spaces that support people in their everyday lives while also using resources responsibly. Interior design can generate a mindset – and that is exactly what the future needs.’ “
The Heinze Climate Festival brings together planners, manufacturers and decision-makers from the construction and interior architecture industries to work together on solutions for a sustainable building culture. In her contribution, Susanne Brandherm demonstrates the difference interior architecture can make in places where people work and meet every day.
