Working with a view of the port
In the middle of Hamburg and directly on the water, brandherm + krumrey has implemented a project for the List Group. A new office environment with loft character has been created in the Elbkaihaus at Fischmarkt. The generous space concept offers plenty of room for different work situations and enhances the industrial charm of the building as well as the special harbour ambience.
Located directly on the banks of the Elbe, the Elbkaihaus originally served as an engine house. When it was converted at the end of the 1990s, the renowned architecture firm von Gerkan Marg und Partner fitted the complex with generous glass façades. This openness inspired the interior design, which at the same time provides sufficient room for retreat. Three subsidiaries of the List Group are based here, for which a New Work concept with various team zones and meeting areas was implemented. The arrangement of work areas appears to be random. A mixture of the companies is intended – rooms and team zones are shared, thus creating additional synergy effects. The choice of warm and soft materials that contrast with the industrial character of the office space contributes to the interior design and emphasises the contradiction between the existing building and the new fixtures. Other materials, such as an orange-coloured folded plate or the reinforcement steel mats used for the reception counter, refer to the List Group’s field of business and at the same time correspond to the existing surfaces of the former engine house. A highlight is the almost unobstructed panorama that opens up thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. From the desks, the view sweeps across the Elbe and neighbouring port facilities.
