Condensed Atmosphere
Hotel Estrel in Berlin is the largest hotel in Germany. After a redesign of the more than 1,000 rooms, brandherm + krumrey were asked to develop a design concept for the central atrium. As a modern interpretation of a classical piazza, the design proposes the reorganisation and atmospheric concentration of the reception area.
The aim of the concept is to develop a uniform and distinctive design vocabulary for the reception area which adjoins five different restaurants. The new atrium should immediately present itself to the guests as an open, modern and well-structured scenery. For this purpose, the surrounding façades are enhanced and integrated into the design. The existing water sculpture remains the focal point and central eyecatcher, around which individual areas are zoned. With flowing transitions, the gastronomic units can be experienced individually. As a connecting element, a “swarm” of light fixtures structures the light space of the atrium.
