Klinikum Ludwigshafen is one of the top addresses for cardiac surgery in Germany. The special competence of the institution is reflected in the interior design developed by brandherm + krumrey. Public areas and nursing wards were laid out as clear sequences of rooms, whose sensitive design responds to the needs of patients. The abstract idea behind the design was the heart as a vitalizing network. Patients and visitors are guided through the hospital areas with subtle means. Networked lines emphasise the reception counters to ensure better orientation and integrate them into the overall design. Green walls and built-in units create a welcoming atmosphere and simultaneously convey tranquillity. Additionally, the indirect lighting of individual room areas has a calming effect. The patient can literally breathe easily.
